Homemade Chai Figleaf Tea Recipe

It’s officially autumn and time to enjoy this cozy Homemade Chai Figleaf Tea recipe! Buy your own fig tree and brew this right from your backyard!

Did you know figleaves have incredible health benefits? They have anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, and anti- bronchial properties, help fight insomnia, stabilize blood pressure, and treat skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, and vitiligo. You can make plain figleaf tea as well. On its own, figleaf tea tastes similar to green tea without the earthiness.

Prep: 3 minutes
Cook: 45 minutes
Servings: 20

Ingredients:

  • 1 gallon of water
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon of whole cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon of whole black peppercorn
  • 1 teaspoon of cloves
  • 1 chunk of ginger, slightly smaller than a golf ball
  • 8 to 10 figleaves

Instructions:

You can use dry or fresh figleaves. To dry and dehydrate the leaves, take a stack of fresh figleaves and let them dry in the sun or you can use an oven on the lowest temperature for 30 minutes. Once dried, crumble leaves between fingers.

Place all ingredients into a large pot and boil for 45 minutes. Then strain and add milk and honey to taste. We recommend goats milk but you can use any milk or milk alternative that you prefer. We recommend oat milk for our vegan friends! Store in the fridge and reheat in a teapot.
